The Delayed Marriage

A woman in her mid-thirties was feeling increasingly discouraged about finding a husband. She had been on many dates, but none had led to marriage. Her family and friends were also becoming worried. She decided to write to the Rebbe through the Igros Kodesh, asking for a blessing to find her match.

The letter she opened was written to a young woman in a similar situation. The Rebbe told the writer to be at peace, that she would receive good news in the month of Elul, and emphasized the importance of increasing in acts of kindness.

She took the advice to heart and began volunteering at a local charity. The month of Elul arrived, and on its very first day a friend called to suggest a new match. The man she met was, in her words, everything she had hoped for.

They were engaged before the month was out and married soon after. What stayed with her most was not only the outcome but the calm she had been given in the months of waiting.
