Safety in the Storm

A family living in a coastal area faced a mandatory evacuation order as a hurricane approached. They were torn between leaving their home and the difficulty of travelling with an elderly relative. They decided to consult the Rebbe through the Igros Kodesh for guidance on whether to stay or go.

The letter they found was one in which the Rebbe advised a family to stay in their place and assured them of G-d's protection, noting that a home of Torah and prayer is itself a shield.

Trusting those words, the family stayed. They spent the storm praying and studying together. The hurricane was devastating, and every other house on their block suffered severe flooding and wind damage.

When the storm passed, their house was untouched. Not a window was broken, and no water had entered the basement. Their neighbours were astonished at the sight of one dry house in the middle of a flooded street.
